Today I read from the following books;

JUDGES 8:18-9:21
LUKE 23:44-24:12
PSALM 99:1-9
PROVERBS 14:9-10

In Judges today it talks about the end of Gideons life. After defeating the Midians the people of Israel ask him to be their ruler. They ask him, and his generations to come to be the ruler of Israel because he has delivered them from the Midians.

Gideon refuses and says that he nor his sons will be the rulers of Israel but that God will be the ruler of Israel. After his victory he did ask that all the men donate 1 gold earring from the plunder they collected during battle. They all agreed and Gideon received enough gold to melt it down and make a statue in Gods name. It says that all of Israel lived in peace for 40 more years. Gideon died and the people eventually went back to their old ways. They started worshiping other gods and did not respect the family of Gideon.

A new man from Israel decides to be ruler over Israel but not in a godly way. That man had 70 brothers that he killed so that he was the only one left. However 1 brother got away by hiding from his brother. While people were gathered and his brother Abimelech was placed as king he shouts to the people, telling them that if they have treated the descendants of Gideon with respect then me hopes everyone lives in harmony, he says to the people that if they have NOT then "...let fire com out from Abimelech and consume you...and let fire come out from you and consume Abimelech!"

In Luke today it describes the final hours of Jesus as he was hanging on the cross.It mentions that the great curtain of the temple split in two. Jesus called out in a loud voice "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit" and then he died.

- Several weeks ago in church my pastor mentioned this briefly. He described the great curtain of the temple in detail. He says that its not the little 1ply curtain that we use now a days. It was several inches thick of linen sewn together and hung very high all the way to the ground. He described it as physical impossible for any human to rip it in half, but obviously the power of God had no problem... -

It then mentions Joseph the council member who was a follower of Jesus requesting him body and placing him in the tomb. It mentions the women coming back 3 days later to find the tomb open and empty, but then 2 figures glowing brightly say to them "Why to you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!" They go back and tell the 11 but the 11 did not believe them, except for Peter who ran to the tomb and saw it with his own eyes.

The Proverbs for today is; PROVERBS 14:9-10 "Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright. Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy."
